Loweing Cholesterol Diet Principles

  • Limit foods high in cholesterol and transfats. Avoid the food if it says partially hydogenated in the ingreident portion of the nutrition label.
  • Limit or avoid meat and animal products.
  • Emphasize a diet low in saturated fat, lean meants such as fish & chicken
  • Substitue olive oil for animal fat. Monounsaturated fats are "healthier" than saturated fat.
  • Polyunsaturated fats may lower HDL cholesterol levels
  • Speak with your physician about cholesterol lowering medication.

    Consider avoiding:

  • Dairy products. If a must, substitute with low or nonfat dairy products
  • Beef and pork. If a must, substitute with very low fat beef & pork
  • Fast food, processed food, anything that is not natural.
